Michael P. Gallagher is vice president of asset management for Sempra Generation, which operates power plants for competitive power markets in North America.

Gallagher is responsible for the financial performance and the safe, reliable operation of Sempra Generation’s four natural gas-fueled power plants, which produce more than 2,600 megawatts (MW) of electricity. He also manages Sempra Generation’s renewable energy plants.

Gallagher has more than 25 years of experience in the power-generation industry. Prior to joining Sempra Generation, he was a partner and director at Sterling Energy Operations. During his seven years at Sterling he was responsible for the mobilization and origination of nine new business entities in the United States and abroad.

He joined Sempra Generation in a consulting role in the spring of 2002 and was responsible for helping transition the company’s power plants into commercial operations.

Before joining Sterling Energy, Gallagher worked 11 years with Duke Energy’s nuclear power plants and non-utility assets. He left the company in 1999 after serving as director and plant manager for a utility in Irian Jaya, Indonesia.

Gallagher has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Naval Nuclear College Program and is a member of the Harvard Business School Executive Education Program in Boston. He began his professional career in the United States Nuclear Navy.
