William R. Engelbrecht

William R. Engelbrecht is vice president of planning and analysis for Sempra Generation, which operates power plants for competitive power market in North America.

Engelbrecht is responsible for the financial analysis, transmission/interconnection support, market rules/structure, regulatory policy and some power-marketing activities for Sempra Generation.

From 2002 to 2005, Engelbrecht was the vice president of energy supply for Sempra Generation and prior to that he served as the managing director of energy supply. He also was director of portfolio asset management from 1998 to 2001. Prior to joining Sempra Generation, Engelbrecht worked for San Diego Gas & Electric from 1981 to 1998. A 17-year veteran of the utility industry, Engelbrecht held a range of engineering and leadership positions in transmission, resource and strategic planning, as well as industry restructuring.

Engelbrecht has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, with a specialty in power, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Engelbrecht is a registered electrical engineer in California and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
