One of the cleanest and most efficient natural-gas fueled power plants in the nation, the 550 megawatt (MW) Elk Hills Power generating station operates about 25 miles west of Bakersfield, Calif.

Jointly owned by Sempra Generation and Occidental Petroleum Corp.

PLANT LOCATION:

Elk Hills Power is on a parcel of land in the middle of Occidental's Elk Hills oil and gas field, which is about 25 miles west of Bakersfield, Calif.

PLANT TYPE:

Combined-cycle; fueled using natural gas

GENERATING CAPACITY:

550 MW, enough electricity for about 420,000 area homes. (Electricity use varies by region, depending on the weather and other conditions.)
