Power plants in operation El Dorado Power

El Dorado Energy, a 480 megawatt (MW) power plant, sells electricity into the wholesale power markets of Nevada, California and the southwestern United States.


One of the nation's first large-scale merchant power plants, El Dorado Energy uses state-of-the-art combined-cycle technology with natural gas as a fuel source. The plant also includes a solar photovoltaic demonstration facility. The project achieved commercial operation in May 2000 as the cleanest, most efficient fossil-fueled power plant in Nevada.

El Dorado Energy is on 138-acres about 17 miles southwest of downtown Boulder City, Nev., and 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas.

PLANT TYPE:

Combined-cycle; fueled using natural gas

TOTAL GENERATING CAPACITY:

480 MW, which is enough electricity for about 360,000 area homes. (Electricity use varies by region, depending on weather and other conditions.)

About $280 million
